Bay State Wind Brings New Steel Facility and Manufacturing Capabilities to Massachusetts

Bay State Wind, the 50-50 partnership between Ørsted and Eversource announced it has entered into an agreement with EEW to open and staff a Massachusetts facility to manufacture offshore wind components. Bay State Wind and EEW will collaborate with Gulf Island Fabrication. The collaboration will deploy new and specialized steel manufacturing capabilities that are not currently utilized in the U.S. Together, these companies create an industry-leading force that will build a renewable energy supply chain in Massachusetts, resulting in local job creation and state-wide economic benefits.

Siemens Gamesa awarded 120 MW expansion of Taiwan’s pioneering Formosa 1 offshore wind power plant

Only one year after the successful commissioning of Taiwan’s pioneering Formosa 1 Phase 1 offshore wind power plant, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has been contracted to supply an additional 120 MW of capacity for Formosa 1 Phase 2. The contracts signed today are subject to the joint venture’s final investment decision and financial close, which are expected later this year. In addition to the turbine supply agreement, a 15-year Full service agreement is also signed and includes the provision of spare parts and tools to help ensure the reliability and optimal performance of the turbines. The installation of the 20 SWT-6.0-154 wind turbines will start in 2019. They will expand the total capacity of Formosa 1 wind power plant to 128 MW.

Offshore wind in Europe grew 25% in 2017
