First U.S. offshore wind farm achieves financial close

As first U.S. offshore wind farm, Block Island, has successfully reached financial close. Deepwater Wind will finance the US$ 290 million project through Mandated Lead Arrangers Société Générale of Paris, France, and KeyBank National Association of Cleveland, Ohio.

A cable fault is preventing transmission of power from the Anholt offshore wind farm to the onshore grid. The cause of the fault is still unclear.

ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) has hailed a major breakthrough in efforts to reduce the costs of offshore wind after the East Anglia ONE project successfully secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the completive competitive auction process run by the UK Government.

alpha ventus exceeds expectations

Germany’s first offshore wind farm “alpha ventus” has been in operation for four years and continues to work according to plan and even exceeds forecasts. From 2011 to 2014, the wind farm achieved more than 16,500 full capacity hours and produced nearly 1,000 GWh of electricity.

The offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 is feeding its first electricity into the German grid. The wind farm is the first German project carried out by the Danish company Dong Energy.

Dogger Bank will push the limits

Planning permission has been awarded for the Dogger Bank Creyke Beck project to be developed by the Forewind consortium. The project is located 80 miles off the Yorkshire coast and is more than twice the size of the UK’s current biggest offshore wind farm.

Siemens installs first turbine in the Amrumbank West

On February 11th, Siemens installed the first 3.6 MW wind turbine for the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm. The entire installation process took 24 hours, with work being performed around the clock in 12 hour shifts.

A major step was recently taken in the French offshore wind market with the installation of the Fécamp met mast in the English Channel. This marks not only a further step towards opening up the French offshore wind market, but also the first installation of a concrete gravity based foundation in deep waters.
