The certification body DNV GL has successfully reviewed and quantified the technical risks of the offshore wind farm “Nordergründe” in the German North Sea.

On August 16, the first wind energy turbine has been installed at the offshore wind site Nordergründe in the German North Sea. The first turbine of the 111 MW wind park was produced by Senvion and has a capacity of 6.15 MW.

The German company Steelwind Nordenham GmbH has been awarded the contract for the delivery of the foundations for offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 2 by Dong Energy.

The financial close has been confirmed for the offshore wind park Merkur with a total capacity of 396 MW. A total capital investment of € 1.6 billion has been raised and the investor consortium consists of GE, DEME, the Partners Group, InfraRed Capital Partners and the French organization ADEME.

The Hamburg-based port logistics company Buss Port Logistics has successfully completed its work for the nearshore logistics and storage of the 67 monopiles for the offshore wind farm Veja Mate, which is currently under construction. The company began handling the monopiles in early March. They weigh 1,300 tonnes apiece and are the largest and heaviest ever built.

The transformer platform for the offshore wind farm Wikinger is now complete and will be transported from Cadiz, Spain, to the Baltic Sea. Its special feature: The platform consists of two parts (topsides), which are jointly used by the wind farm operator Iberdrola and the transmission system operator 50Hertz.

The first wind turbine at the offshore wind farm Sandbank 90 km west of Sylt has been installed. The wind farm is scheduled to go into operation in early 2017, and a new transfer vessel will shorten the expected construction time by up to three months.

The offshore wind industry hit a new record for investments of €14 billion during the first half of the year – exceeding the total full-year investments in 2015 – according to offshore statistics for the first 6 months of 2016 published today by WindEurope. As of 30 June 2016, cumulatively, there are 3,344 offshore wind turbines with a combined capacity of 11,538 MW fully grid connected in European waters in 82 wind farms across 11 countries, including demonstration sites.

Senvion will be providing the turbines for the first floating wind farm in the French Mediterranean. The Senvion 6.2M152 turbines have been specially adapted for use on floating offshore foundations. The wind farm will be installed and put into operation by 2020.
