EnBW and aerodyn test model for floating wind turbines for first time in Germany

Two wind turbines on a precast concrete floating platform: that, basically, is Nezzy2. This 18 metre tall, 1:10-scale prototype is being tested by EnBW and aerodyn engineering, a north German engineering company, in a flooded gravel pit near Bremerhaven. Next, this summer, Nezzy2 is to prove itself in wind and wave conditions in the Baltic Sea.

ZF’s first wind turbine gearboxes equipped with a Schaeffler cloud connection go into operation

Schaeffler and ZF use jointly developed expert models to analyze and predict the condition of wind turbine gearboxes based on the actual loads that occur during operation

ZF Friedrichshafen and Schaeffler are collaborating to develop new solutions for predicting the operating life of wind turbine gearbox components based on the actual loads that occur during operation. Since September, the first wind turbine gearboxes equipped with sensors and condition monitoring systems have been supplying operating data to a cloud-to-cloud solution to enable this to happen.

North-east Scotland has marked a UK offshore wind first following the successful installation of the first pioneering suction bucket jacket foundation for Vattenfall’s 11-turbine European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in just 15 hours. The EOWDC in Aberdeen Bay is the first offshore wind project to deploy the foundations at commercial scale with each of the 11 steel jacket foundations weighing in at almost ten Boeing 747s.

Siemens Gamesa has been able to transfer its new logistics concept, announced in 2015 into reality. By using a Ro/Ro solution the company expects to save about 20 % in costs and increase safety at the same time.

AWS Truepower Releases January 2018 Wind Trends Bulletin

According to the Wind trend Bulletin, published by AWS Truepower the monthly wind performance in January 2018 deviated form the conditions in December 2017 all over the world. The monthly Wind Trends Bulletin is based on a custom combination of three reanalysis datasets: ERA-Interim, MERRA, and CFSR. The use of all three allows for rapid, reliable updates of global wind conditions.

Minke whales, seals and harbour porpoise show a clear response to Acoustic Deterrent Devices, demonstrating the effectiveness of this technology on these important species. When used in conjunction with other mitigation measures ADDs could prevent adverse effects of subsea piling noise.
