EEW SPC has been awarded two new orders

The Rostock based company EEW Special Pipe Constructions (EEW SPC) has been awarded two new orders for the delivery of 205 monopiles in total. 174 of the foundations are meant to be for Hornsea Project One, the world’s first wind farm with a capacity of more than one Gigawatt. 31 monopiles have been ordered by the Dutch marine contractor Van Oord.

In November 2016 DONG Energy and EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC) announced a contract for 116 monopiles. On August 18th EEW SPC announced the extension of this order to cover all 174 foundations for Hornsea Project One. Onshore works for the wind park began in 2016. Offshore construction is meant to be started by the end of this year and due to be completed by 2020.

“Hornsea Project One will be the first wind farm in the world to have a capacity of more than 1GW and will provide enough energy for well over one million UK homes. Using the same foundation solution for all turbines means we benefit from economies of scale and experience, and therefore maximise efficient construction of the project”, said Claus Nørgaard, Engineering, Procurement and Construction Director for the project.

Four days after the announcement of the contract extension for Hornsea Project One, EEW SPC announced another contract. The Dutch marine contractor Van Oord has assigned EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH to manufacture and deliver 31 monopiles for the offshore wind farm Deutsche Bucht. The 31 monopiles will be in the XL range where EEW SPC will process more than 35,000 tons of steel in total. The foundations will be manufactured in Rostock between November 2017 and May 2018 so that offshore installation work can commence as planned at the beginning of September 2018. Deutsche Bucht offshore wind park will have a capacity of 252 MW and is located 95 km west of the German Island Borkum.
